Christine has worked at the Legislative Assembly for 20 years in a variety of capacities, from an editor of the Official Report of Debates (Hansard) to supervisor of electronic publishing and information services, to operations manager and, currently, Director of the Digital Information Office. Though she still thinks of information management as a found occupation – she doesn’t recall spelling this out to her high-school or university guidance counsellors – Christine can point back to her first co-op work terms in undergrad as de facto information management jobs. She feels like she has always been on this path, and whether she is looking at her career or the maturity trajectory of her employer’s RIM program, any move forward in the realm of information governance rarely cuts a straight line.
Christine will share what she has learned as an IM generalist and organizational strategist while mapping the Legislative Assembly’s journey to a formal program of information governance. What skills and resources are critical at the team level for success? What does cross-departmental collaboration look like IRL (in real life)? What roles, responsibilities, resources, and processes can strengthen an IG program – and ensure a high-quality strategic approach and outcomes? What presented as roadblocks? How are things different when your organization’s origins in law are the Constitution Act? We will look at these things and more in this presentation.
